Washington Commanders All-Pro WR Terry McLaurin officially ended his holdout of training camp on Sunday, but still doesn't have a contract extension and was moved to the Active/PUP list with an ankle injury, but more has developed since then.

McLaurin was present again on Monday with his agent after practice and the saga received quite a twist after practice from a NFL insider that could drag things on for a while.

McLaurin wants to get PAID

The biggest storyline for the Commanders has continued to unravel as the month of July goes on, and ESPN's Adam Schefter dropped a bomb that kind of came out of nowhere. Schefter appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" and was asked about the latest on the McLaurin-Commanders situation.

"But I would say that DK Metcalf was the same draft class as Terry McLaurin," Schefter told McAfee. "He got about $33 million a year. You know, I wouldn't think that Terry is willing to take less than that, and I think he wants considerably more than that."

Wanting "considerably more" than DK Metcalf is very alarming to me. Metcalf is making around $33 million per year and is two years younger than McLaurin despite being in the same draft class. How much exactly is "considerably more"? To me that sound like $35-$36 million per year which is top-2 in the league.

Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb makes $34 million per year and he's only 26 years old. I dont think there's a way Washington comes even close to that number. McLaurin might be pricing himself out of the Commanders price range.

Denver Broncos WR Courtland Sutton, who is about the exact same age as McLaurin, just got a 4-year, $92 million extension and that number could heavily hurt McLaurin's camp. The latter is obviously the better receiver, but that deal just hurt the market of an almost 30-year-old WR who is still a very productive WR1.

The gap is bigger than people realize

The Commanders and McLaurin have reportedly been far apart on the numbers and Schefter himself confirms that a deal is not close.

"They love and value Terry McLaurin," Schefter added. "But they love and value him at a different price. So they seem these two sides right now, seem apart on a deal like they don't seem close today."

Schefter doesn't just come out and speak hypothetically and this comes just two days after McLaurin ends his holdout to avoid collecting more training camp fines for missing practice. He's been on the field with his agent Buddy Baker after working out on the side field at practice and spending time with fans.

Was this move more of the Commanders side of business shining more light on the situation through Schefter and saying, "Hey, this is why we haven't paid McLaurin yet" as fans grow frustrated?

The twists and turns in the Commanders-McLaurin saga continues to develop and an end doesn't seem near at all. This could be a dilemma that drags into the preseason and possibly the start of the regular season unless the two sides find a way to close the gap somehow.
