On the field, the results have been immediate, with Dan Quinn leading the team to the NFC Championship Game in January with the help of rookie QB Jayden Daniels. Off the field, the team has scored many wins as well, becoming efficient in running things. Now, the ownership is is scoring a major offseason win.
According to insider Mark Maske from The Washington Post, Washington will host the 2027 NFL Draft. Per the report, the event will take place on the National Mall. An announcement from the White House is expected on Monday.
After New York was the home of the popular NFL offseason event, the league has been on a mission to take it on tour on a yearly basis. This year's event held in Green Bay drew over 600,000 fans over the course of three days. Since it was taken away from Radio City Hall in 2015, the Draft has also been held in Chicago, Philadelphia, Arlington, Nashville, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Detroit.
Obviously, setting the NFL Draft in the National Mall—often nicknamed America's Backyard—would give it yet another layer of meaning, given the significance of the place for national celebrations such as presidential inaugurations.
Next year, the NFL Draft is headed to Pittsburgh, where Acrisure Stadium is expected to be a part of the setting, as well as other important points of interest nearby. After it, expect one of the biggest sports events on the calendar to head to Washington.
Based on the direction the Commanders are headed on, don't expect them to be picking very high when they go on the clock in their own town.
