If there's one thing I learned from Von Miller's first press conference with the Washington Commanders, it's that he lacks no confidence on what he can still do at 36 years old.
Washington has brought in an all-time great in Miller to help get to the quarterback and fans should be excited after hearing him speak about what he's got in the tank, and why he picked Washington.
Miller just wants to put in work on the Commanders
Miller said that during OTAs he missed being at practice and that he just wanted to go back to work. Washington called the pass rusher about a month and a half ago and the future Hall-of-Famer decided to join the team and put the helmet on for training camp.
The time lost this offseason has no impact on how he will perform at training camp though.
"I can still roll out the bed at 36 years old with my house shoes on, and still rush the passer," Miller told the media. "There's other stuff that I got to work at to get better at, of course, but the main thing for me is rushing the passer. I can do that right when I wake up fresh out of sleep."
You either have it or you don't and Miller said he still has that "God given ability" to rush the quarterback.
Miller wanted to join the winning culture in Washington
Miller did not hold back one bit when he talked about why he wanted to join the Commanders and he had strong words for the new culture and key pieces on the team.
"It was extremely intentional coming here," Miller said. "You just can't leave Josh Allen and go anywhere, man, you know. You just can't go from the AFC Championship and just go anywhere."
"This team is all about winning," Miller added. "I'm all about winning. Whatever it takes to win. I'm gonna do that on and off the football field."
I never thought I would hear regarding the Commanders that in my lifetime coming from a high caliber player like Miller, but that's the new norm.
He would also go on to give high praise to Dan Quinn, Jayden Daniels, Bobby Wagner, and even former draft classmate Ryan Kerrigan, who coaches on the defensive line now. It can't be understated how impressive the Commanders look to other players outside of Washington.
Miller could've gone to a lot of teams for a year to show that he can still produce, but Washington had everything he was looking for as a team with a winning culture and pieces in place on the field to win a Super Bowl.
