Dan Quinn admitted that one young player has his attention, and the roster needed his growth with a critical offseason coming
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn says LB Jordan Magee has his attention, and his role should only increase with a lot of offseason changes coming up.
The Washington Commanders might be 4-11 in a wasted season, but there are still plenty of things to watch for on this roster in the last two games.
General manager Adam Peters has a critical offseason ahead where he will disect the roster to its core, and evaluate what moves need to be made. You only get 17 games in a season, unless you make the postseason, so every game is an opportunity to put out more film on what you can do.
The Commander desperately need the younger players from the recent drafts to develop and take over key roles on the team, and that’s what LB Jordan Magee is trying to do, and Dan Quinn see it.
Dan Quinn says that Jordan Magee has his attention
It’s been a roller coaster of a season when it comes to Magee’s snap counts week to week, but you can see the growth continue every single week. The speed difference when Magee is on the field is very noticable in both coverage and stopping the run. Magee’s best trait going into the draft was his athleticism, and he’s really flashed it over the last few weeks against some tough matchups.
Even with his growth, it’s been hard for Quinn to put Magee on the field with Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner as the starters, but that hasnt stopped him for acknowledging his growth.
“Jordan Magee. You’ve heard me talk about him quite a bit,” Quinn said. “He’s definitely somebody that just has my attention, the intensity that he plays with, the intensity that he brings.”
Jordan Magee needs to become a starter or a major rotational player next season
It’s pretty unlikely that Wagner comes back for another season, so that leaves a hole in the roster that needs to be filled. Magee can be the guy next to Luvu, or they can add another linebacker in the draft, or with a free agent like Devin Lloyd. If they do swing big, they could rotate Luvu and Magee, or play three linebackers on certain packages.
Regardless, the best-case scenario is Magee turning into the athletic freak at linebacker that can start and be the future at the position. A much better defense up front with a consistent pass rush, and better play in the secondary should also help take stress off of the linebackers, and allow them to play more freely. These last two games can be a stamp for Magee to show Peters that he can be part of the future plans of the defense while he makes changes this offseason.
