The Commanders could be getting a vital player back from injury much sooner than expected after Dan Quinn’s recent comments
This would be a massive boost for the Commanders.
The injuries have piled up for the Washington Commanders at important positions such as Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin, but there may be good news for another key starter coming sooner than expected.
It’s never easy replacing one of your best players on the team, and the Commanders have done everything possible with a next man up mentality to help keep the offensive line intact.
The first few weeks haven’t been pretty, and they have already made multiple changes at both guard spots, but Sam Cosmi could be on his way back to help out.
Sam Cosmi injury update
We have had many discussions about the Commanders’ offensive line so far through the first three weeks of the season, and a lot of it has been negative until this past Sunday. One name we haven’t heard about in a long time, however, is right guard Sam Cosmi, who has been out since he tore his ACL in the playoffs.
Head coach Dan Quinn was asked about Cosmi’s injury update, and his status is headed in a very positive direction.
“We’re working hard,” Quinn said. “And he has really put in the work, so that’s what we’re aiming towards. Then, as we get into next week, we’ll see if he’s ready to take that next step. But this is another guy who has just all offseason through the summer put the work in. And so, we are at the last little bits of that. You try to simulate as much as you can. Simulated sets, this, but he does need to be back in the team setting. So as soon as that can happen, that helps him in a normal ramp-up process too.”
Should he come back early?
Cosmi started the season on the PUP, and he’s eligible to return as soon as next week, which might be a stretch, but it sounds like he will at least start to ramp up and get back with the team sooner rather than later.
Andrew Wylie held down the right guard spot on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, so there shouldn’t be a real rush to bring Cosmi back from a very serious injury. His return would help solidify a unit that struggled, though, and Wylie can play at multiple spots on the line. We don’t have an exact return date for Cosmi, but Quinn’s comments are very encouraging for a very important player.
