The season is spiraling out of control after the Washington Commanders got embarrassed against the Dallas Cowboys on the road.

Franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered another injury, and the defense hit absolute rock bottom, with no signs of any improvements coming. Fans are looking for answers and need a reason for hope. We’ve heard the same things repeated after every loss, and yet nothing has ever changed with the defense.

This was the most frustrated we’ve seen head coach Dan Quinn during and after a game, and he gave a brutally honest response on what’s going to happen next.

Dan Quinn voiced his frustration with the defense

Anyone could tell you how bad the defense has been all season, but we’ve been waiting to see Quinn be upset and actually say something noteworthy about a change coming, and he finally voiced his frustrations after the game.

“Yeah, it’s very frustrating,” Quinn said. “We’re looking at everything, man. We are going to look at everything, too. To have a play that goes down the field and you, you know, throw over your head, or a good battle, like I can live with that one. But the ones of the big, explosive plays that I can’t put my finger on, that’s a lot for us to dig into. If I had one specific reason, I would say this or this, but yeah, we got like I said, a lot to get better at.”

The defense hasn’t changed one bit this season, and teams have the blueprint for beating the Commanders. Quinn always talks about the Commanders’ brand of football, and what we’re seeing right now is not up to that standard at all. Saying they will look at everything should mean actual changes happening for the first time this season.

Worst showing of the season on defense

The defense started the game with some flashes, including a safety by Daron Payne, but the backbreaker was allowing the Cowboys to drive 72 yards downfield in 35 seconds for a touchdown before halftime to go up 27-15. This was the worst defensive drive of the whole season, but not even the most embarrassing play of the game, which was Marshon Lattimore and Quan Martin running into each other for a 74-yard touchdown to CeeDee Lamb.

Allowing a season-high 44 points is unacceptable, and the Cowboys had 409 total yards to go with it. They moved the ball with ease and did whatever they wanted to on the Commanders’ defense. The pressure is on now, and it’s up to Quinn to make a real change with the season’s goals getting out of reach.
