The Washington Commanders suffered their fourth straight blowout loss in the same fashion they have all season, by the defense being one of the worst in the league.

Changes needed to be made, and this is as bad as it’s been since general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn took over. We’ve been waiting weeks for an actual change on defense, but nothing happened for well over a month, and the criticism was getting louder against Quinn.

After seeing what head coach Dan Campbell did to the Commanders, Quinn decided to finally make a change that worked out well for the Lions, but won’t have the same results.

Dan Quinn took over play-calling like Dan Campbell did

Quinn saw what Campbell did for his team and decided to do the same thing less than 24 hours after the loss to the Lions. During the broadcast of the game, the biggest talk on the Lions’ sideline was how Campbell had a play-calling sheet on offense. The Lions have been struggling on offense, and Campbell decided to quietly take over after a loss to the Minnesota Vikings the week before.

Campbell knows as the head coach that he’s responsible for how the team performs, and if something isn’t working, then he needs to take over and steer the ship back on track. That’s exactly what he did, too, after putting up 546 total yards on the Commanders, and completely changing up their offensive trends on the season.

Quinn decided to step in as defensive coordinator and demote Joe Whitt Jr, taking over play-calling like Campbell did on offense, but it won’t have the same results for obvious reasons.

Commanders’ defense won’t improve any

The Lions and Commanders are two completely different teams right now, and Quinn taking over on defense was a move that had to be made because things were heating up.

Campbell took over the offense because he knew it was better than how it was playing, and it’s loaded with talent. Meanwhile, the Commanders’ defense is just bad, and Quinn still refused to fire his guy, Whitt Jr., and the blame was starting to fall on him if he didn’t make a move.

Now, when the defense struggles, the blame will be on Quinn since he’s the new defensive coordinator, and he will eventually have to fire Whitt Jr. when the season ends and start his search for a real replacement.

The move still needed to be made, though, and it honestly should’ve happened after the loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but Quinn delayed it as long as possible to avoid having to deal with the difficult decision before the halfway point of the season.
