It's now been 21 days since the Washington Commanders (7-5) traded for four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore and finally, it sounds like he'll participate in his first practice with the team on Wednesday.
"We're going to get some first shots at practice with him today," Commanders head coach Dan Quinn told reporters. "We're really following a rigorous process with him and that's not just with Marshon, it's especially with soft tissue injuries. We've got a great staff and they're working together with him and the feedback that goes with it to help keep him safe, as well.
"But we're pumped to get him back out on the field. It's hard to predict, with soft tissue injuries, but it'll be awesome to have him back out working at practice today."
It's been a grind when it comes to just getting him out on the practice field, so the latest update is obviously encouraging. The Commanders are taking their time when it comes to making sure he's good to go and it goes beyond health. They want to make sure he's ingrained in Quinn's and Joe Whitt Jr.'s system in order to maximize his effect during a game.
The injury has been somewhat of a blessing in disguise, as it's allowed him to dive into the playbook and figure not just the plays, but how to communicate them with his new teammates on the field.
"Just the practice reps and getting into the flow, I think that would be the one for him," said Quinn. "The communication in the system – those are the things he's already done in the walk through. So [it's] about getting comfortable and just really the confidence in it. And so, like I said, That's why going through the process with the medical staff and his engagement in that too, because that's part of our protecting the team is also [protecting] the player and making sure that he's safe and when he is ready to go [there's] no limitations on that."
Having Lattimore on the field against a Tennessee Titans team that's on the upswing would be huge. The Commanders defense has had a rough go of it over the last three weeks, particularly in the second half. His presence would provide a major boost and would help the depth in the secondary, as well as potential matchups, obviously.
But, as we've seen since November 6, only time will tell if Lattimore actually plays. If he doesn't expect him to be ready to go after the Commanders' Week 14 bye, which sure enough, would make the Commanders' matchup against none other than the New Orleans Saints his first game in the burgundy and gold.
Quinn also provides updates on Andrew Wylie, Austin Ekeler, and Brian Robinson Jr.
The Commanders head coach said Wylie and Ekeler will miss Wednesday's practice because they are currently in concussion protocol, which isn't a surprise. He specifically said those two guys are the only ones who will miss practice.
Therefore, Robinson Jr. will practice on Wednesday, which is a very good sign for the star running back. Now, that has to carry through the week and Quinn didn't specify whether he's a full-go or a limited participant, but we'll get that information once the team releases its injury report later in the day.
Commanders legend says what needs to be said about Jayden Daniels and the offense after loss to Cowboys
There's zero doubt that Jayden Daniels is one of the most electric players at the quarterback position, already. Sure, he had a few down weeks and Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys started off very slow. It's clear he's back to full health and ready to go after racking up 74 rushing yards on the […]
