NFC East bombshell hire puts even more pressure on Commanders to bounce back in 2026 with stacked division
The Commanders have to bounce back in 2026 with the NFC East reloading and adding John Harbaugh into the mix as the new coach of the New York Giants.
The Washington Commanders went into the offseason making drastic changes after a 5-12 season, and rightfully so.
They aren’t the only team that’s looking to improve on their coaching staff, and the NFC East is loading up for a crazy 2026 run. The Commanders made a change at both coordinators but decided to run it back with head coach Dan Quinn. His seat will be warm heading into next season, and the pressure is on even more after the New York Giants made a massive hire that can turn around their franchise in one year.
The New York Giants have hired John Harbaugh as the new head coach
We knew the Giants would hire a new head coach after firing Brian Daboll earlier in the season, but nobody expected John Harbaugh to be available. The Baltimore Ravens decided to part ways with Harbaugh after 18 long seasons, and plenty of success. Now, he’s headed to the Giants to turn around a young, promising team.
The Giants are expected to sign Harbaugh to a five-year, $100 million contract, and they’re going all in to turn the franchise around. The pressure is on for the Commanders, who received a wake-up call this season, just one year after making it to the NFC Championship game. This is a year-to-year league, and everyone in the NFC East is making drastic changes to improve in 2026.
The Commanders can’t afford to have another down season
The Commanders have to be aggressive this offseason in both free agency and the NFL Draft, and not repeat what they did last offseason. If you thought this offseason was crazy already, a losing record next year would cause even bigger changes next year. The Commanders’ 2026 schedule isn’t any easier, and the Giants won’t be the cake walk that everyone views them as anymore.
Quinn has to show this season that he made the right calls with the coaching changes on the staff, and the roster has to be drastically improved. Despite all the injuries this year, it still wasn’t a good showing by Quinn and his decision-making along the way. Jayden Daniels has to take a step in his development and stay healthy, and the roster needs a youth movement like the coaching staff got. The NFC East is always the craziest division in the NFL, and it will be wide open again next year with the Giants taking a massive swing and landing Harbaugh.
