Jayden Daniels put the league on notice in his rookie season as the QB for the Washington Commanders, and he got the attention of one of the all-time greats.

We’ve seen players who are currently in the league talk about how special Daniels is already, but getting the praise from someone who played the same position and made it into the Hall of Fame is a different level of respect.

It’s not often that old school players like Steve Young praise the new school wave of players, but he didn’t hold back about how impressed he was with Daniels.

Daniels is simply built differently

Young talked to Dan Patrick on the “Dan Patrick Show” earlier in the year and broke down his thoughts on the QBs in today’s NFL. Daniels stood out as a QB who does everything that normal humans simply don’t do.

“Some people respond in a presence under pressure. The opposite of what most humans do. It’s, it’s, it’s irrational to the human experience, but some guys just do, and that’s why they’re great. . .That’s the filter for quarterbacks. How many quarterbacks do you see when it gets tight there? Oh my gosh. And then their game gets smaller. They don’t do as much. Their athleticism starts to disappear, their mind starts to speed up, and they can’t process the way they did. . .

“And some people are just built different. And he’s built different, you can see it. And in today’s game, he is the ultimate prototype. He is threatening the line of scrimmage every play.” – Steve Young

Daniels stays poised at all times

It’s very rare to see a QB stay so calm under pressure, but Daniels did it at the highest level as a rookie, and it’s what separates him as one of the best in the league already. There were many moments last season when the game was on the line, the pressure was on, and Daniels delivered with a bomb to Terry, a big-time run, or a game-winning Hail Mary.

Daniels’ ability to read and diagnose plays is one of his most underrated traits, and it allows him to know the exact play to make in every situation.

Coming in as a rookie and earning the respect of your teammates and others around the league is one thing, but being called the ultimate prototype by one of the best old-school dual-threat QBs of all time is next level.
