Jayden Daniels’ clock is officially ticking, and a comeback for the Commanders could be sooner than expected
The Commanders are getting Jayden Daniels back at practice this week, with a return coming soon.
The Washington Commander had Week 12 off with their bye week, and they’re back to work with some very encouraging news.
Even with the week off, the Commanders had one of their biggest tasks to take care of, and that’s reevaluating Jayden Daniels’ injury and deciding what to do for the rest of the season. There’s been a huge debate about whether Daniels should play again this season after dislocating his elbow, and the team put that to rest.
Daniels is officially coming back to practice, with his return likely coming much sooner than expected, but just not yet.
Jayden Daniels is back at practice with a quick return, but still needs time
The week back is kicking off with very positive news for Daniels, who will be returning to practice according to reports, but is still a long shot to play Sunday night against the Denver Broncos.
No one knew if or even when Daniels would return after suffering his third injury of the season, which was the most gruesome of his career, but his return is now right around the corner. Some projected him to miss multiple more weeks with a return in the last three games, but a return against the Minnesota Vikings would put him right at five weeks. Head coach Dan Quinn said that Daniels hasn’t been cleared for contact yet, and he will continue to be monitored.
The bottom line was that Daniels was going to play when he’s back to full health, and now he continues to get more reps before the season ends. Hopefully, Terry McLaurin will be back at the same time, so he will have someone he trusts to throw to. The Commanders also opened the 21-day window for wide receiver Noah Brown, so more reinforcements are on the way.
The Commanders need to see more of Daniels and the rest of the team
You never want to waste a season for a young quarterback, and getting those in-game reps plays a massive part in Daniels’ development to see what else he needs to work on this offseason. He’s only played in six games this season, and finding that rhythm and momentum to end the season is one of the only real goals left.
This also helps evaluate the rest of the offense for the same reason. Obviously, there will be a lot of changes on the roster with free agency and the draft, so being able to evaluate the offense with Daniels out there gives them the clearest picture possible. Daniels’ return is right around the corner, and maybe the Commanders can collect a couple more wins before the season ends.
