Jayden Daniels sent a very clear message about a soon-to-be free agent he wants this offseason
Jayden Daniels couldn’t help but drop a hint about wanting the Commanders to add WR Brandon Aiyuk this offseason.
The 2026 NFL offseason is officially here, with the Super Bowl over, and now it’s time for all 32 teams to get to work.
The Washington Commanders have already made plenty of changes to the coaching staff, and now it’s time to focus on the roster. General manager Adam Peters will have multiple opportunities to add talent this offseason, and they need to be aggressive in doing so.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels knows one guy he wants, and he made it very clear that it’s a former college teammate out West who was already heavily linked to the Commanders.
Jayden Daniels drops a hint at wanting a reunion with Brandon Aiyuk
The Commanders need to add talent on both sides of the ball this offseason, but Daniels specifically needs more help on offense. Daniels will have a familiar face in David Blough as the new offensive coordinator, but likely be running a new scheme. Adding another wide receiver option outside of Terry McLaurin will help Daniels next season, and there’s one obvious target this offseason.
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk has been a hot name over the last few months since the news reported that the 49ers are moving on from him this offseason. Daniels made his first public statement about wanting Aiyuk when he spoke with Nate Tice from Yahoo Sports, and the rumors will only heat up more now.
“There are a couple of individuals that are out there,” Daniels said. “Maybe somebody from Arizona State in my past.”
“Ok, yeah, lives on the West Coast?” Tice asked.
“Yeah, there’s most definitely people like that out there,” Daniels added. “I don’t want to give too much, but when that time comes, you know, hopefully we can sign those types of players.”
Should the Commanders add Brandon Aiyuk this offseason?
Aiyuk was previously rumored to join the Commanders during his contract holdout, where he publicly said he wanted to play with Daniels if the 49ers didn’t pay him. A lot has changed since then, however. Aiyuk received his extension and then tore his ACL and MCL in October of 2024, and hasn’t played since.
His relationship with the 49ers is beyond broken, and a breakup will happen sooner rather than later after Aiyuk had over $25 million in guarantees voided in his contract. Aiyuk will likely be released soon, and the Commanders need to do their due diligence on him.
Of course, you want to make your franchise quarterback happy, but you also don’t want to spend too much on a wide receiver who isn’t healthy. Health and cost will be the two biggest factors, but there’s no doubt that the Commanders should look into Aiyuk as an option. They will already be the top choice for Aiyuk, and clearly, Daniels wants him there as well.
