The Washington Commanders wasted no time making a change to the coaching staff after a disastrous season, and some were shocked by the decisions that were made.

Just one year after making it to the NFC Championship and having a ton of success with quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders decided to mutually part ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. It was a bold move at the time that many people questioned, but it seems to have been the right call, with Kingsbury still striking out on many coaching opportunities.

Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t get the New York Giants’ offensive coordinator position

Kingsbury was a popular name when the offseason started, and he interviewed for many head coaching opportunities, including the Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans, but he didn’t land any of those. Then, Kingsbury had to pivot to offensive coordinator openings, and he’s still on the market without a new team yet.

His search will have to continue after the New York Giants decided to hire Matt Nagy instead of Kingsbury, after he was linked as a legit candidate they were interested in.

Kingsbury was a hot name for the Giants over the last few days, then Nagy came out of nowhere and took the job. There are only a select few openings left, and Kingsbury may end up completely missing out on every opportunity available, unless he can reconnect with Caleb Williams in Chicago.

Kliff Kingsbury is running out of options, but one team stands out

Dominoes are still falling around the NFL with coaches being hired elsewhere, but there are only so many openings left. The New York Jets are still looking for their offensive coordinator, while the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears are looking to replace theirs after losing their own.

The Seahawks would be a big landing spot for Kingsbury, and the Jets haven’t shown interest in him at all, so the Bears’ opening might be his last hope. The Bears just lost their own offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle, to the Baltimore Ravens, and Kingsbury has a connection with Williams.

Kingsbury was at USC in 2023 during Williams’ final season as an offensive analyst, and he worked directly with Williams. Of course, head coach Ben Johnson will be the guy calling the plays and running the offense, so Kingsbury might have to give up that freedom and try to heal his reputation before going anywhere else. If not, he might have to go back to college football, where his offense would thrive.
