If you thought the drama between Terry McLaurin and the Washington Commanders was ugly, then wait until you see what’s happening with the Dallas Cowboys.

All-Pro defender Micah Parsons shared on social media that he wants to be traded from the Cowboys due to seriously negative conversations regarding his contract extension. If the Cowboys were to trade him, the Commanders would be the clear choice for Parsons. The relationship between Parsons and the Cowboys sounds like it’s beyond repair, and a trade might be the only move.

Parsons wants OUT

We’ve been hearing reports that Parsons has been unhappy with the conversations between himself and the front office for about two years now, and things took a major turn. Parsons shared on social media just how unprofessional things have gotten and why he wants out of Dallas.

Parsons said that the Cowboys have had no urgency to get a deal done, and they even turned a casual conversation into “closed-door negotiations” without his agent’s presence. That’s not just an unprofessional tactic, but also grimy to try to get Parsons to agree to a number unknowingly.

This isn’t a normal trade request like we’ve seen with McLaurin or other high-profile players in the league; this may be the final straw for a front office that is always in the headlines for doing business the wrong way.

Why Washington would be the move, and a trade package

Parsons has expressed many times how much he loves Commanders head coach Dan Quinn, and he’s also a massive fan of the new franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels. Quinn coached Parsons from his rookie season in 2021 until 2023, when Quinn left to join the Commanders.

The two are still very close, and the star defender said on his podcast this past season that Quinn is “like an uncle” to him, and that he still calls to check in on Parsons all the time.

Quinn calling Parsons after a loss to check in on his headspace and mental state just shows you why players love playing for Quinn so much. He’s a player’s coach, and that’s harder to find these days than you would think. Parsons also couldn’t help but praise Quinn’s defensive system when he was talking about LB Frankie Luvu making the NFL top 100 list, and said he “missed those days”.

There’s no doubt Parsons would pick the Commanders, but I highly doubt Jerry Jones would entertain sending him to their biggest rivals and a team that made it to the NFC Championship game. This is a business, though, and we all know Jones is a businessman and wouldn’t lose Parsons unless he’s getting the best offer available.

Washington has made plenty of trades since Adam Peters took over as general manager, but this would be the biggest one yet. Let’s look at what the Commanders could give up to send Parsons to the Commanders.

Reports are that it would likely take two first-round picks, and the Commanders can add a 2027 third-round pick and DE Dorance Armstrong to send to Dallas as well. Armstrong played and produced for the Cowboys before he signed with the Commanders in 2024. His cap hit is only $10.1 million this season and would also save the Commanders $7.18 million with a post-June 1st trade, according to Spotrac.

This trade package should get a deal done if he ever becomes available for a trade, due to Parsons needing a contract that will likely make him the new highest-paid non-QB in the league. Trading for Parsons and paying him would mean that McLaurin would have to wait for a new deal, but also put the Commanders in the Super Bowl conversation.

Of course, the burning question from fans will be if McLaurin would be involved in the trade, and I would highly doubt it. The Cowboys probably wouldn’t want to take in another WR who needs top money and a new contract while they pay CeeDee Lamb and recently acquired George Pickens.

It might seem unlikely, but the Cowboys may have no choice but to trade Parsons, and the Commanders could sweep in and offer the best package to reunite him with Quinn. The Commanders have been linked to every top pass rusher available, and they can land one of the best in the league and fix a major need on the defensive line.

‘Get out, we can’t be doing that’ – Jayden Daniels lays down the law in latest Commanders’ practice and it reinforces their Super Bowl standard

Last season was all about becoming the best quarterback he can be for the Washington Commanders, but this season, Jayden Daniels is stepping up as more of a local leader, and that starts in practice.
