NFL insiders link the Washington Commanders as a fit to two defenders ahead of trade deadline, and one makes perfect sense
Should the Commanders make a move for these two players?
The Washington Commanders’ season is slipping away, and a few more losses could put them into sell mode with the playoffs out of reach.
We aren’t at that point yet, though, and the Commanders could still make some moves as we’ve seen general manager Adam Peters do many times already to help now and for the future. Trading doesn’t have to involve big swings, and player swaps are a real option as well, including Brandon Coleman and Noah Igbinoghene.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowen released a trade deadline article ranking the top players they believe could be traded before the NFL deadline and their best fits, and the Commanders were mentioned as fits for two defenders.
CB – Cam Taylor-Britt

Yes, Cam Taylor-Britt is the corner for the Cincinnati Bengals, who called the Commanders’ offense a college offense before they lost to Jayden Daniels and company in their own house. However, he’s still talented and could help the defense in a big way. Taylor-Britt is only 26 and needs a new home, as he doesn’t fit the new scheme for the Bengals’ defense. He could be a starting corner in place of Marshon Lattimore, who is very likely gone after the season.
I don’t know the exact trade compensation it would take to get this done, but a swap for Taylor-Britt and Noah Igbinoghene makes sense. Both players are the same age and are in the last year of their contracts, so there’s no financial or draft capital risk. We’ve already seen teams swap corners with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars trading Tyson Campbell and Greg Newsome weeks ago. Taylor-Britt has shown flashes and could be a young piece to add to the defense.
S – Kyle Dugger

Kyler Duggar is the other player mentioned for the Commanders, and he was linked to them in the 2020 draft before being taken 37th overall by the New England Patriots. The Commanders definitely need safety help, and he would be a good fit with his size and athleticism to be used in many ways. He also just got an extension, so you’re taking on another team’s contract for a 29-year-old player.
The Patriots are definitely going to eat some of the contract if they trade him, but he still has cap hits of $17 million in 2026 and $18 million in 2027. That’s too much for a player who wouldn’t be an every-down player, and that’s cap space that can be spent elsewhere in free agency.
The Commanders could be sellers if they lose games against the Chiefs and Seahawks. They should be all over a risk-free player swap with the Bengals for Taylor-Britt, and stay away from trading for someone like Duggar and taking on any contracts.
