Tom Brady has been a hot topic today, with many people criticizing his involvement with the Las Vegas Raiders’ coaching staff and his broadcasting position. Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders and also the highest-paid sports broadcaster ever after signing a 10-year deal worth $375 million with Fox.

Not many people are happy with the conflict of interest after what we learned during Monday Night Football. This directly impacts the Washington Commanders in their matchup against the Raiders on Sunday, as well as Brady’s involvement with the Commanders this season.

The NFL saw the talk and spoke up against it, which should calm Commanders fans.

Conflict of interest?

During Monday Night Football in Week 2, we saw Brady in the coaching booth with a headset on, and we also learned that he meets with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly two to three times a week to watch film and gameplan against teams that he’s likely called games for. The NFL released a statement Tuesday morning addressing that Brady is doing nothing wrong with both of his positions with Fox and the Raiders.

The main issue people have with this is that broadcasters meet with the teams they are covering to get insight on certain players, schemes, and even details behind the scenes. If Brady is learning more than he should about a team, he can incorporate that in his weekly meetings with the Raiders coaching staff if they play a team he’s already covered.

Not everyone is happy about his involvement, and some are even questioning the integrity of the NFL. Would they allow anyone not named Tom Brady to do this?

How this impacts the Commanders

This is important for Commanders fans because Brady called the Week 1 matchup between the Commanders and New York Giants, and now the Raiders are coming to Washington on Sunday. The NFL stated that Brady isn’t allowed to attend team practices or production meetings in person, so he isn’t getting the behind-the-scenes insight from any team. The coaching staff and players also have control over what they tell Brady for his game prep.

Commanders fans shouldn’t worry about this at all, but it’s certainly something that the NFL will have a major magnifying glass on from viewers and the media. The national media is already ripping the NFL for allowing this to happen, and it will be careful about this. They’ve already deleted their post on Twitter (X) of Brady in the coaching booth.

Fans also won’t have to worry about Brady being in the Raiders’ booth on Sunday since he’s calling the game with the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. Do you think the NFL should allow Brady to be involved in the Raiders’ game planning while he’s a broadcaster with Fox?
