Kliff Kingsbury is officially back with the Washington Commanders for the 2025 season after Tuesday's news, but that may not be the case for assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chicago Bears have all requested to interview Blough, the first-year coach who has four previous seasons as an NFL quarterback under his belt. The Jets and Jags are interested in him taking the quarterbacks coach position, while the Bears are interested in making him their passing game coordinator.

Both titles are considered promotions, which falls in line with the NFL's rule that teams are only allowed to poach coaches under contract if they're offering a promotion. If a coach is under contract, their employer has to grant permission for them to leave for a lateral move. Hence why former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers joined the Detroit Lions as defensive line coach – the Bucs let his contract expire.

Blough worked very closely with Jayden Daniels and played a big role in the rookie's development, so this isn't much of a surprise.

"I have enjoyed this more than I thought I would," Blough told reporters back in December when talking about the transition from a player to a coach. "I have thoroughly enjoyed making the transition and I think a lot of it has been how DQ and Kliff have established the culture on the staff. . .

". . . I thoroughly have enjoyed learning something new everyday. It's been very stimulating, trying to impact the game from my new role."

Blough also drew up some plays for Kingsbury's offense, most notably the game-winner back in Week 17 when the Commanders beat the Atlanta Falcons in overtime, and that's exactly why the Bears have interest in him as pass game coordinator.

"I had been a part of running that in Detroit," said Blough. ". . . So we had some good teach-tape-reps for it and we repped it in March, we repped it in April. We repped it a lot. So it's fun when you hit one that shows up big-time on Sunday to help us win."

It's obviously still early, but it's clear Blough is a smart, capable guy with a bright future as a coach. Now, it's just about how long that future is in Washington or elsewhere.
