The Washington Commanders are back to playing football this week as they travel to the New England Patriots for a joint practice on Wednesday, and the first preseason game on Friday night.

There’s a lot to look forward to this season after just coming up short of a Super Bowl appearance, and that starts in the preseason. We’re going to get our first look at the new additions to the roster this offseason with a loaded rookie class, and free agents that will contribute this season.

The team released the first unofficial depth chart on Monday, and it gave us a foundation to build off of and know what to watch for in the preseason games. Here’s a look at how to watch the game Friday night.

How to watch Commanders vs Patriots

For the local fans trying to tune into the game, we’re in luck as we can watch the game live on local channels, even though it’s an away game.

  • WUSA (CBS/9 – Washington)
  • WJZ (CBS/13 – Baltimore)
  • WTKR (CBS/3 – Norfolk, VA)
  • WRLH (FOX/35 – Richmond, VA)
  • WZBJ (24 – Roanoke, VA)

For the fans not in the DMV area, the game isn’t the premier game of the night on NFL Network, so NFL+ is the best bet for trying to watch any of the preseason games, and it also includes extra perks that I enjoy using throughout the whole regular season. Yes, it’s unfortunate to pay for a subscription service to watch the game, but it’s been worth it in my opinion when I lived out of the area.

You won’t want to miss the rookies debuting for the Commanders like Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who has been the talk of training camp. I’m also intrigued to see veteran depth pieces like Jonathan Jones and second-year players like Luke McCaffrey, Ben Sinnott, Jordan Magee, and Tyler Owens.

We will see some competitions before the game at the joint practice on Wednesday, and learn more about what to watch for during the game. Players will be fighting for roster spots over the next few weeks, so these in-game reps are important. Who are some of the players you’re looking forward to seeing in preseason, and who has the most to prove?
