On Friday, the New England Patriots declared that Jerod Mayo is the new head coach. And this is just a day after Bill Belichick departed from Foxborough, holding his final press conference on Thursday.

Robert Kraft announced it would be a quick process, but no one expected it to be this quick. So with that, Mayo will have the opportunity to address the media for the first time in his new position.

The franchise announced that they will hold an introductory press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 17, introducing Mayo as the 15th head coach in the team's history.

The event will be streamed live on Patriots.com and on the Patriots social channels.

While Belichick's final press conference consisted of just him and Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft is expected to be at Mayo's alongside his father.

Mayo was drafted by the Patriots in 2008, being selected in the first round out of Tennessee. And he remained in Foxborough for his entire career, retiring after the 2015 season.

He moved into business right after his retirement, but returned to the Patriots in 2019 on the coaching staff.

Mayo was thought to be the Patriots succession plan to Belichick, and now it is official.

A to Z Sports will have live coverage of Mayo's introductory press conference on Wednesday.
