The New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos got a deal done on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints sent veteran kicker Wil Lutz to Sean Payton's team in exchange for a 2024 7th-round pick.

Blake Grupe will be the starting boot for the Saints this season, and they hope for plenty more time after that, too. According to Luke Johnson, the Saints made the move without money at the forefront of their minds.

The Saints love Grupe as the future of their kicker position. He is a rookie that provides more long-term stability than Lutz does if Grupe continues to show what he has in the preseason.

For Lutz, he was only under contract for this season. The Saints would have needed to find another kicker at the end of the season if they didn't re-sign Lutz.

Lutz' agent didn't hold back when asked about the Saints' decision to choose Grupe over his client.

Perla's job is to defend Lutz, so it isn't surprising. That being said, Lutz was noticeably emotional after the team's preseason finale this past Sunday. There was no harshness or anger.

Lutz may have known that major change was coming for him and New Orleans, but he was sincere and thankful.

Lutz often mentioned he and his family's increased connection to the city of New Orleans during his career with the Saints. His agent didn't mince words when discussing the move by the organization, though.
