The Philadelphia Eagles are in the process of finding a new linebackers coach. Previous LB coach Nick Rallis is now the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, following Jonathan Gannon.

However, if the latest rumor is true, Darius Slay will not be the happiest person on the team.

According to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, former Patriots assistant Matt Patricia is in the running for the LB coach job.

Patricia spent the last two seasons with the Patriots as a defensive assistant and offensive line coach. Before this, Patricia was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2018-2020.

Slay and Patricia spent two seasons together in Detroit, and clearly it did not go well.

Slay felt disrespected by his former coach after Patricia made a comment about him working out with Aqib Talib and Richard Sherman.

"He basically just said, 'You are not in that category yet,' " Slay said. "At that time, I only had one Pro Bowl but now I’m at five, so I want to know how he feels about that now."

Slay would go on to say that Patricia is a smart coach, but the two just don't get along.

"He’s a smart coach, he knows his Xs and Os, but the disrespect is not what I’m with," said Slay.

It is worth noting, not much did go right during Patricia's Lions tenure. The coach compiled a 13-29-1 record in less than three seasons with the team. Slay, meanwhile, was traded to the Eagles before the 2020 season and went on to sign an extension with the team.

Slay has been great for the Birds, making the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022 collecting seven interceptions in three seasons.

Patricia and the Eagles have history as well, with Patricia's Patriots falling to the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

During the 2017 season, Patricia's Patriots defense was ranked fifth in points allowed and routinely shut opponents down.

However, the high-powered Eagles offense had no problem scoring in the Super Bowl. In one of the more memorable Super Bowls of late, a Nick Foles-led Eagles team put up 41 points against Patricia and the Patriots.

However, Patricia is a respected defensive mind and he would assuredly be a solid hire for the team.
