Monday Night Football was supposed to be the start of a new journey for Aaron Rodgers, who suited up as a Jet for the first time, instead, the worst happened. Rodgers lasted 75 seconds on the cursed turf field before going down with a season-ending Achilles injury.
Unfortunately, this is nothing new as MetLife Stadium is home to not only the New York Jets and New York Giants but also many, many injuries.
And Philadelphia Eagles' cornerback Darius Slay, who has played at that stadium multiple times in the past, did not hold back with how he felt about the "trash" field.
"He’s in New Jersey, a new [team] and then it’s like, ‘Damn, MetLife,” Slay said via NBC Sports. “Everybody knows about that goddamn stadium,” Slay said. “They need to get real grass. That’s trash [long sigh].
"That’s sad for anybody to go down. I don’t like anybody to go down because we play this dangerous game. Everybody thinks we’re superheroes, but we’re really not. We’re really just normal human beings that go out there and just try to go hard at work."
Instead of putting grass down, the Jets made the decision to put in new turf this year–which clearly didn't change a thing.
"To see him go down, because I know he put a lot of work in with the guys in the offseason, man," Slay said. "I know those guys trust in him and believe in him, but man, I’m praying for him and his family, and I hope he comes back stronger (next year).”
The Eagles play at MetLife on Oct. 15 against the Jets, and then again on Jan. 7 versus the Giants.
