The Philadelphia Eagles and several other NFL teams wrapped up their spring workout program last week, which means we won't get to see them back on the field together until training camp kicks off in July.
Following OTAs and mandatory minicamp, the writing staff at A to Z Sports went through all 32 NFL teams and picked out an early offseason standout.
And for the Eagles, that player was cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.
Rodgers spent last fall away from football due to a gambling suspension, but according to several reporters in attendance during Eagles' spring practices, you would have never known:
"It’s been more than 365 days since cornerback Isaiah Rodgers has played football following his year-long gambling suspension, but you wouldn’t know it considering how well his offseason is going so far. For many of his practice reps through OTAs and minicamps, Rodgers ran with the first-team defense and he made his presence felt with shout-outs from wide receiver A.J. Brown and fellow cornerback Darius Slay. The competition runs deep at corner, but if Rodgers keeps this momentum up through training camp, he could earn a spot on the 53-man roster."
The Eagles have 15 cornerbacks competing for a roster spot this offseason, though Rodgers has already put himself in a great spot ahead of training camp.
Rodgers Is Right on Schedule With His Comeback Season
Rodgers, 26, was originally a sixth-round pick out of UMass by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2020 NFL draft.
He was suspended for the 2023 season after he violated the NFL's sports gambling policy.
Per ESPN, Rodgers placed over 100 bets that ranged anywhere from $25 to $50. He also placed a $1,000 prop bet that included the Colts.
At the time of the suspension, Rodgers told ESPN that the bets he placed were made for other people.
"That report is true, with it being $1,000, but that report wasn't made from my device," Rodgers said. "The $25 to $50 bets are exactly true, but it was more crazy-leg parlays with just $25 trying to make a crazy amount. Just funny bets. Nothing too serious."
A few months later, Rodgers was released by the Colts and then the Eagles took a gamble and picked him up knowing he couldn't play for at least one year.
Before his suspension, Rodgers was a key contributor on Indianapolis' special teams and widely considered a promising up-and-coming cornerback in the league.
In three seasons with the Colts, Rodgers saw action in 45 games and made 10 starts where he logged 88 tackles, 10 passes defended, and three interceptions.
Rodgers has yet to play a snap for the Eagles, but it sounds like he's en route to changing that.
