Without looking at him, it would be impossible to peg Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce as the 12-year veteran that he is. Though he has 35 years of life experience under his belt, Kelce’s approach to an unpopular NFL rule change sounds as if it is coming from a player still under his first contract.

The NFL recently announced a new rule centered around improving the product on Thursday Night Football. The rule states that the league can now flex games into the Thursday night slot as long as there is a 28-day notice.

There are a couple more stipulations which state that no team can play more than two Thursday night games in a season. Plus, the only time period the league is allowed to flex Thursday night matchups falls in between Weeks 13-17.

But with just one TNF game currently on the Eagles’ 2023 schedule, the Birds are one of the teams vulnerable to this new rule. While most veterans might look down on this change, Kelce is embracing it.

Kelce joined the Green Light with Chris Long Podcast to express his excitement for the change.

“I always I like Thursdays because it's walkthroughs in the middle week,” Kelce told Long. The game is gonna be a struggle. Yeah, but once that's over, you get three days off after that. It’s a big advantage late in the season for the home team.”

Philadelphia is currently slated to play the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football in their Week 2 matchup. The Eagles’ schedule from Week 13-17 also features a couple of premier matchups the league might choose to put in front of a larger audience.

Week 13: vs. Buffalo Bills
Week 14: vs. San Francisco 49ers
Week 15: @ Dallas Cowboys (SNF)
Week 16: @ Seattle Seahawks
Week 17: vs. New York Giants (Christmas Day)

If Kelce isn’t complaining about it, then nobody should. Plus, a mini bye week could come in handy for a team with as many vets as the Eagles have on their roster.

Time will tell whether or not Kelce’s wish will come true. But it’s comforting to know that the Eagles’ undisputed team captain is always comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Kelce has the perfect mindset to instill in the rest of the team if this unique situation ever arises.
