We are now just single-digit days away until the NFL regular season officially kicks off with Kansas City taking on the Detroit Lions for Thursday Night Football.
While the Lions appear to have all of their ducks in a row with their star players, the Chiefs could be without stud defender, Chris Jones.
That's because Jones has been holding out in KC for a new contract, which kept him from reporting to training camp and playing in the preseason.
His teammates, especially tight end Travis Kelce, are distraught and want him back sooner, rather than later.
“Chris, can you please come back? You’re really scaring me, man,” Kelce said on “New Heights” on August 31. “I don’t get it. You must know something that I don’t know because I just don’t get it. I really want to win another Super Bowl ring with you, brother. This is me, just bargaining with you to come back and play football for the Chiefs. Please, we need you.”
However, Travis's brother and Eagles star center, Jason Kelce, says not so fast.
"Don't let them do this to you, Chris. You need to hold STRONG, my man! For all the other D-tackles in the NFL. You cannot take this injustice," Jason said in response to his brother. "You must stay (away) through at least the Eagles game, and then you can come back. I think that's the appropriate time — it's just a coincidence."
The kicker is that the Eagles don't play the Chiefs until Week 10. Fair enough, right?
Jones is asking for $30 million annually in his new deal, according to The Athletic's Nate Taylor.
The four-time Pro Bowler logged 15.5 sacks last season, the fifth-most across the league.
While the Chiefs haven't yet budged on paying up, general manager Brett Veach told reports on Wednesday, August 30 that the two parties have been "in communication" and that he hopes to see him in the lineup on September 7.
But fingers crossed Jason and Eagles get their post-Week 10 wish!
Dan Campbell’s wish on Chris Jones might be coming true
Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell was on Stoney and Jansen last week and was asked about Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones and his holdout. Campbell seemed quick to wish that Jones holdout would continue. "Yeah, that’d be great," Campbell said "That'd be great. I love where he’s at right now. Hopefully, we […]
