Eagles OL Lane Johnson sprints to celebrate Julio Jones' TD

Julio Jones was once recognized as the best wide receiver in the NFL, leading the league twice in receiving yards (2015 and 2018).

Now, 34-year-old Jones is a well-seasoned veteran on a touch count. Some (many) would even say he's "washed-up."

But don't let his age and decline in production fool you. There's still something left in the tank and he proved that on Sunday in Philly's Week 8 win over the Washington Commanders.

Late in the fourth quarter, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts found Jones in the end zone for a touchdown pass.

It was an exciting moment for fans and players as every single member of the Eagles offense sprinted over to congratulate him.

Right tackle Lane Johnson, after shoving a Washington defender out of the way, showed off his speed and was the first lineman to get to Jones to help him celebrate.

"Even though he's been in the league long like me, I'm still just a huge fan." Lane said post-game, via Zach Berman of PHLY. "I remember the play in Atlanta when he scored on a fucking jailbreak screen and took off. Any time you get a Hall of Famer-caliber player like him, when he's on the last part of his career and still making plays and how hard he works, I'm just so proud. I was super hyped for him. He went up and high-pointed the ball. Did what Julio Jones does."

Come to find out, the Eagles installed the red zone play specifically for Jones on Friday, head coach Nick Sirianni told NBC Sports. He also said that Jones and Hurts ran the play roughly 15 times before they got it right.

"The reaction our team had when Julio scored that touchdown. I mean, you would have thought the way [T] Lane Johnson and [WR] A.J. [Brown] and [C Jason] Kelce and all the guys, [T] Jordan [Mailata], ran to the end zone, you would’ve thought there was a fight that had broken out in there," Sirianni said. "They were just going into the end zone to celebrate with Julio because of how much respect they have for him, how much he’s done in the two weeks he’s been here, just his work ethic. Everybody notices that. Everybody notices the way Julio works."

After 13 years in the league, Jones is finally playing for a real contender and will hopefully get the happy ending [Super Bowl ring] that he deserved a long time ago.

“It’s amazing. We just believe in one another,” Jones said. “They believe in me to go out there and execute and take advantage of the opportunity that’s given. But it was more so for the team, me going out there and playing my role and doing it to the best of my ability.”
