Could the Philadelphia Eagles be adding one of the NFL's top superstars to their roster?

CBS Sports thinks it could be a possibility.

The national sports media outlet listed Philly as a potential landing spot for Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.

Carolina fired head coach Matt Rhule on Monday and with the Panthers looking like they'll be in the cellar for a while, a firesale seems likely.

McCaffrey is their top asset and it makes sense that they would deal him to add some draft picks. By the time the Panthers are ready to compete again, CMC will likely be exiting his prime years.

From CBS Sports:

Word on the street is the Eagles would've happily taken McCaffrey had he lasted to their first-round pick in 2017. That year, general manager Howie Roseman bought into the team's Super Bowl aspirations and dealt a pick for then-Dolphins RB Jay Ajayi at the deadline, proving he's willing to rent a starter if the time is right. Adding CMC would put a dent in Miles Sanders' workload as he approaches free agency, but it makes sense otherwise, considering how much the Eagles lean on the run. McCaffrey lined up next to Jalen Hurts would give Philadelphia one of the most unpredictable backfields in the league.

The Eagles don't need McCaffrey, but he would certainly be a nice addition.

McCaffrey is like a cheat code for an offense. He's a great option for quarterbacks when a play breaks down, as he's great at catching the ball out of the backfield.

The former Stanford standout can also run between the tackles and pick up precious yards after contact.

If Philly wants to guarantee a trip to the Super Bowl — they're already one of the favorites — then this would definitely be a move to consider.

I don't know exactly how motivated the Panthers will be to move CMC — their attendance in Charlotte is already dwindling due to poor play this season — but I'm sure the right offer could lead to a deal.
