The Philadelphia Eagles had a new player join their team recently, and on Sunday he was the one making the big plays for the team and ultimately helping them win the game.
It wasn't a guy you'd expect, either. It wasn't a skill position like a receiver, running back, quarterback, or anyone on the defense, either.
No, it was actually the backup kicker. Cameron Dicker, or 'Dicker the kicker.'
"Dicker the kicker, man," Dallas Goedert said when asked about his thoughts on the backup kicker. "Did just like anything. We have a tight-knit group, and it doesn't matter who comes in, we are family. We accepted him right away. We knew we needed him. So, it was cool getting to know him, hearing his stories from Texas, some big kicks there. So I had no doubt in my mind."
This team had no doubt in their mind that Dicker wasn't going to make those kicks. Not only that, but Dicker showed up, too. He didn't shy away from anything either. He truly deserves all the credit, and head coach Nick Sirianni thinks so too.
The team never doubted themselves, even when they were struggling more than they had all year so far. They never doubted themselves when they were facing adversity.
"First of all, all the credit to him," Sirianni said. "He made the kick in a huge moment, right? And he made another kick in a big moment too and was perfect on all his extra points. But, the guys really embraced him, and they put their arms around him. But that's our team. They embraced him, made him feel welcomed… Jake [Elliot] gave him support, and he had a lot of support. But all the credit goes to him, he had a big play."
This is a new guy we are talking about here, and the guys in the locker room are already praising him and coming up with nicknames. That just shows the type of locker room they have, and the culture they have set for the team.
This team is showing that they can win in more than one way. They are also proving they are the best team in football.
