The Philadelphia Eagles (13-2) came up just short in Saturday’s Christmas Eve clash with the Dallas Cowboys (11-4). Ultimately falling to the Cowboys by the score of 40-34, the Eagles sent multiple messages to Dallas along the way.
Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts was sidelined on Saturday due to a shoulder injury, prompting the team to start its back-up Gardner Minshew. It was Minshew who put forth a valiant effort, giving Philadelphia a chance to win late.
Though the team’s comeback efforts came up just short, the Eagles proved that they are not just a one-man wrecking crew. Head coach Nick Sirianni managed to get his guys ready against a hungry Cowboys team, fighting tooth and nail to the finish line.
It’s a performance that should stoke fear into the rest of the NFC. This outing proves that the Eagles can go toe-to-toe with the NFL’s best while missing its MVP candidate in Hurts.
As for this historic NFC East rivalry, Sirianni doesn’t believe these two teams have seen the last of each other.
Sirianni met Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy at midfield following the game for a handshake. The two exchanged holiday pleasantries before Sirianni told McCarthy, “You guys are a hell of a team. We’ll see you guys again.”
The Eagles are one win away from locking up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. On the other hand, Dallas is in a dog fight with the Minnesota Vikings for the No. 2 spot.
It’s likely that the Eagles and Cowboys do cross paths in the playoffs, but with a healthy Hurts in front of a home crowd, it makes a steep hill for Dallas to climb.
