The Philadelphia Eagles added some extra cushion to their secondary depth on Tuesday.

According to NBC Sports' Dave Zangaro, the teams signed cornerback Tiawan Mullen to their practice squad.

The move comes a day after it was reported that starting nickel Avonte Maddox would be undergoing surgery on a torn pec and would be out "indefinitely."

In addition to Maddox, the Eagles are also dealing with injuries to safety Reed Blankenship (ribs) and cornerback James Bradberry (concussion).

Mullen isn't a new face in Philadelphia as he has already spent some time on the Eagles' practice squad in early September.

Before signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent this past April, Mullen had quite the career early on at the University of Indiana, leading the Big Ten in pass breakups in 2019 and being named All-American in 2020.

After that, poor play in 2021 and an ankle injury derailed the final two years of his college career, which ultimately hurt his draft stock. In four seasons with the Hoosiers, Mullen logged 5 interceptions and 28 pass breakups.

Mullen is the brother of former Las Vegas Raiders second-round pick Trayvon Mullen and the cousin of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
