The Philadelphia Eagles are fine at tight end thanks to the presence of Dallas Goedert, who has solidified as one of the top tight ends in the NFL behind staples such as Travis Kelce, George Kittle, and Mark Andrews.

However, depth at the crucial offensive position was desperately needed following the departure of Jack Stoll, who recently signed with the NFC East rival New York Giants.

They took care of that by adding C.J. Uzomah on Thursday, who is signing a one-year deal with the Eagles, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

At 31 years old, Uzomah has acquired a lot of NFL experience, spending the last two years with the New York Jets following a seven-year stint with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he posted a career-high 439 yards in 2018.

Although Stoll isn't somebody that consistently jumped out of the page on the stat sheet, he did represent 38% of the offensive snaps for the 2023 regular season, per Pro Football Reference.

The Eagles needed to add someone to compete with Albert Okwuegbunam and Grant Calcaterra, who combine for 63 career catches compared to Uzomah's 192.

Uzomah won't win TE2 without having to put up a fight but it's fair to call him an early favorite for the job. Now, the Eagles can go into the 2024 NFL Draft with a lessened concern at tight end, making this a savvy addition for Howie Roseman & Co.
