Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has captured the attention of the entire nation in leading his team to its third 5-0 start in franchise history. The last quarterback to go on such a run to start the season was Donovan McNabb in 2004.

McNabb bleeds green, having played 11 of his 13 seasons with the Eagles, and knows a thing or two about playing the position. He’s also been monitoring Hurts’ development with a watchful eye.

NBC Philadelphia’s John Clark caught up with McNabb following the Eagles’ Week 5 win against the Arizona Cardinals. Clark mentioned how Hurts has elevated his play from last year to this year, and this is how McNabb responded:

“It’s about taking steps forward. I think the experience factor after his rookie year has helped him get to this point right here. I think he’s going to continue to climb and ascend because of his work ethic,” said McNabb, who has built a relationship with the Eagles’ signal caller.

“I love what he’s doing right now, I love his approach, I love his attitude. He’s a determined individual and I expect — in five-to-six weeks from now — to see another step forward.”

As mentioned earlier, the last time the Eagles started 5-0 was in 2004 with McNabb under center. The Eagles finished that season with a 13-3 record, securing the top seed in the NFC.

The one difference Eagles fans hope to see from ’04 is the result in the team’s final game. McNabb’s Eagles fell to Tom Brady’s Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX by the score of 24-21.

That’s an outcome Hurts and this high-flying Eagles offense hopes to find themselves on the opposite end of at season’s end.
