Yes, you read that right. The Cowboys faithful would rather have Hurts playing quarterback as opposed to current Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. You can't make this stuff up.
Kevin Sherrington of the Dallas Morning News compared the two quarterbacks in a recent column, writing:
Hurts is five years younger, and he’s already won as many playoff games in two seasons as Dak has won in seven. But you also have to wonder if his body can hold up if he keeps running so much and what another year of film means for opposing defenses …
My bet: At the moment, I’d rather have Hurts, because he’s younger, stronger and just as much his team’s heartbeat. But before committing long-term, I want to see where these two NFC East quarterbacks are at this time next year.
Jalen Hurts' contract situation
The bad news for Cowboys fans, but good news for the Eagles is that Hurts is reportedly close to settling on a contract extension by the end of the month. And last week, FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchianoreported that Hurts could end up getting $50 million per year: "The Eagles, according to NFL sources, aren’t balking at the price tag either.”
Vacchiano also explained that Hurts will seek “to be one of the two or three highest-paid players (based on average annual value) in the game."
However, that isn't a guarantee. Agents close to the situation believe that he will be third on the list ahead of Kyler Murray. No agents believe Hurts will receive a deal less than Murray.
Expect the Eagles to finish the contract talks soon in order to prepare for the offseason which will be a busy one. Regardless, it is a bit ironic that those in Dallas are finally admitting that Hurts is the better of the two quarterbacks.
