The Philadelphia Eagles have always been a gritty team that prides itself in having a mentality like no other. They are always a team that gets down and dirty in the trenches and will just simply outwork you.
The Super Bowl team in 2017 had the same aura about them. They believed they could beat the New England Patriots and Tom Brady even when no one else did. They represent what the city of Philadelphia is and what the fans are.
This year, they want to do the same thing on offense and defense.
"Yeah we talked a lot about the daily process and everything like that, but we also talked about having a dog mentality today, and just what that means and how important that is for a season," head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters on Wednesday.
"And what that means is you're on to the next play regardless of what happened was good or bad the play before. So if you had a bad play, you're on to the next play. If you had a good play, you're on to the next play, and it's controlling what you can control on that next play."
Having that sort of mentality is always good for a football team. You want your guys to be in a mindset where they feel like no one can beat them, even if they mess up one play.
Being able to move on to the next one is crucial. A lot of players will carry over one bad play to the next just from their body language. The Eagles are a team you won't see do that often.
Having that dog mentality can help you win another Super Bowl, which is the main goal. Loom at the past few Super Bowl winners and see if they had something similar to that. The answer is likely yes.
On Sunday against the Detroit Lions will be a great time to see if this team does have it. Anyone can say they have it but not everyone can just have a mentality like that. If they beat up on a bad team like Detroit, we could see that type of mentality going into effect early.
