Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is many things, including an almost college bust.

Hurts had a historic freshman season under head coach Nick Saban at Alabama, throwing for 2,780 yards and 23 touchdowns with nine interceptions. Then in what should have been a precursor for the NFL, Hurts rushed for a total of 954 yards and 13 touchdowns, breaking the school single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback. However, Hurts' time at Alabama didn't end smoothly.

He was benched at halftime of the 2018 College Football National Championship and after Tua Tagovailoa led a second-half comeback, Hurts spent most of his junior season as a backup.

Hurts then transferred to Oklahoma, where the rest is history. Though Hurts left, Saban still respected Hurts for the way he carried himself.

It's why Saban is proud of the former Alabama quarter. He knew Hurts worked at his craft and had the right attitude to be a difference-maker at every level.

What Nick Saban had to say

And with Hurts playing in the Super Bowl, Saban finally spoke of his former quarterback's commitment to the game on The 33rd Team.

It appears to be that pride is an understatement for Saban. This season, Hurts has vindicated his greatness — silencing the doubters as to whether he is a franchise-level quarterback.

In 15 games, Hurts completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He had a passer rating of 101.5 while rushing for 760 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns.

All that is left is winning the big one.
