The Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 14 matchup with the New York Giants might not be as daunting as once thought.

The Giants have a one-dimensional offensive attack led by star running back Saquon Barkley. One of the most feared backs in the league, Barkley is the catalyst of New York’s sixth-ranked rushing offense, averaging 149.7 yards per game.

However, there is an increasing possibility that the Eagles won’t have to deal with Barkley at all.

Prior to Friday’s practice, Giants head coach Brian Daboll addressed the media, focusing on Barkley’s neck injury. Though Daboll mentioned that Barkley would get in a limited practice session on Friday, he admitted that his status for Sunday’s game against the Eagles could be in doubt.

Daboll described Barkley as "sore" after popping up on Thursday's injury report.

The Giants are battling for a Wild Card spot in the postseason. While this weekend’s game is certainly important, New York’s biggest test of the season will come next week as the team travels to face the Washington Commanders.

I’m not suggesting that the Giants rest Barkley for what essentially lines up to be a win-and-in game against the Commanders next week. However, it’s important to outline what lies ahead for New York’s playoff chances.

Even if Barkley is able to suit up on Sunday the Eagles’ run defense has been steadily improving. Philadelphia is coming off a win over the Tennessee Titans in which the defense held Derrick Henry to just 30 yards rushing.
