Here at A to Z Sports, we held a way too early 2024 NFL mock draft at the midseason point of the 2023 NFL season.
And with the 32nd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select…
Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Linebacker, Clemson Tigers

"The Eagles don't have many weaknesses at the moment so when there is one, it sticks out like a sore thumb and right now it's at middle linebacker. Philly has not selected an off-ball linebacker in the first round of the draft since 1979. However, now could be a good time to change that by taking Jeremiah Trotter Jr. with their first pick. It would also be a happy homecoming for the versatile Clemson product whose dad, Jeremiah Trotter Sr., spent several seasons with the Birds dating back to 1998. We know general manager Howie Roseman loves to bring plays home, so why not do it again?"
The Eagles thought they found a gem when they landed Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean in the third round of last year's draft, but that hasn't been the case. Dean has been riddled with injuries and when he is available at MIKE, he's been nothing but a liability, leaving the Eagles to settle for their subpar depth at the position.
That's where Jeremiah Trotter Jr., son of former Eagles' All-Pro linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Sr., comes in.
Known for his elite versatility, Trotter became a hot draft prospect following the 2022 season after he logged 55 tackles, 20 assists, three pass breakups, and two interceptions through 615 defensive snaps. He also registered 10 QB hurries, six hits, six sacks and 22 total pressures.
Trotter has only continued to stack on to his success, adding 48 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in seven games this season.
Standing at 6 feet and 240 pounds, Trotter's size may be a bit of a concern, but his many other qualities make up for it, including his ability to quickly read runs and get ahead of blockers.
It's been a long time since the Eagles drafted an off-ball linebacker in the first round, but if Trotter is available at No. 32 overall, he's worth taking because he won't be there after Day 2.
