Instant reaction to Steelers 16-10 win at Bengals
It was a crucial divisional battle in Cincy today, with Pittsburgh desperately needing a win. Not only did they accomplish that, but they did so by re-writing some poor history. It was a crucial divisional battle in Cincy today, with Pittsburgh desperately needing a win.
Not only did they accomplish that, but they did so by re-writing some poor history.
Here's how it happened:
90 for 90
T.J. Watt calls his own number here, recording the 90th sack of his career and his 12.5 sack on the season.
Browning holds on to the ball for far too long here and T.J. cashes in.
Attacking The Middle
The Steelers offense did look fairly different in the first quarter, with more play action, rolling pockets, and middle-of-the-field concepts, including this huge hookup on third and long.
A Questionable Call
On a beautiful tight window rip from Pickett to Johnson, the officials ruled that Johnson didn't maintain possession through the ground. However, on further analysis, it seemed as if DJ made a "football move" with Gene Steratore of CBS saying it should have been a TD.
Can't Win With It
Diontae Johnson breaks a cardinal rule in football here, as no one is above the team. That was a bad call on the missed TD, but you can't display such little effort on a fumble.
Angry Najee
Najee came into the game knowing that Warren would be more of a feature in the rushing attack, but you can't tell that by the way he was running early in this one
Ball Bounces The Wrong Way
After a tipped pass on a huge 3rd down that went for 31 yards from Browning to Chase, the Bengals would punch the ball in on this play and take a 7-3 lead.
Hail Herbig
Herbig looked like he was shot out of a cannon on this play, just demolishing Jake Browning.
The rookie will continue to see more reps with plays like these.
Thompson Time
Thompson has been filling in for Minkah Fitzpatrick as he still rehabs a hamstring injury, and he's been doing an excellent job evidenced by the interception above.
Hard Running Pays Off
Harris' big run from earlier in the game was rewarded on this play, as he strikes up the band for six.
He has rookie tight end Darnell Washington to thank for that, seeing as he was a catalyst for the seal on the perimeter.
Pickett to Pickens Travels to Cincy
After an injury scare that sidelined Pickens for a few plays, the budding star at WR would return in fantastic fashion, working Mike Hilton in the slot for a huge play.
Might Want To Block Him
Typically, teams direct all of their attention to T.J. Watt on thrid down, but the Bengals obviously didn't get the memo on this one, leaving one of the leagues best players unblocked.
Salt In The Wound
Pittsburgh's offense still struggled in the red zone and certainly could have been more efficient, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the team outgains their opponent for the first time all year, and goes for over 400 yards for the first time in over three years in the same week they let Matt Canada go.
A win and a huge offensive output have you wondering what took so long.
Steelers WR Diontae Johnson completely checks out in middle of play that costs his team
Not the best of looks for the one time Pro Bowl player.
