We have been anticipating the worst for Pittsburgh Steelers star defender Cam Heyward since the initial report on his injury

But there was a brief moment of optimism before Ian Rapoport of NFL Media put an end to that rather quickly on Thursday:

What took so Long?

Heyward was rumored to have been searching for a second opinion prior to his surgery, something that players typically do when facing a long injury or recovery. The Steelers also try and keep things in house, evidenced by Mike Tomlin's statements yesterday:

“We don’t have to make a decision, so we’re not,” Tomlin told reporters on Wednesday. “Time affords us more information. I’m just acknowledging that he’s out this week. We’ll take a look and see where the healing is and worry about judgments in subsequent weeks after that.”

That quote was in regard to a question about Diontae Johnson's injury and a potential trip to IR.

Today's news all but assures Heyward will head to the injured reserve, but we will wait for official word as we gain information leading up to Monday Night Football
