T.J. Watt had a dominant performance on Sunday, even if the rest of the Pittsburgh Steelers did not.
Yet, even he believes he can do better.
But he knows, and expects his team to do much better:
"Not Acceptable"
“I mean, I don’t wanna diminish what it is, but I’m just super, super upset about the results of today," Watt told reporters in response to a question about him tying the franchise sack record. "Not happy with it, not acceptable on many levels and there’s so many more plays to be made out there. I mean, myself included. Just looking at a lot of the runs, what we can do better, what I can do better, and we need to improve quickly, and we have a tough opponent coming up this week, so we need to get in the lab.”
Watt had one of the best games you will see out of a pass rusher, recording five tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery, while tying James Harrsion for the franchise record in sacks at 80.5. Showing he is still one of, if not the best defender in the league when healthy, Watt couldn't stomach what he saw on the ground:
That McCaffrey run was just a long one, but only 65 of the nearly 200 rushing yards that Pittsburgh allowed on Sunday, something that has to be cleaned up, independent of Watt's dominance.
So if nothing else, maybe Watt's message will wake up his fellow defenders, guilt-tripping them into better performances following Sunday's shameful loss.
