The Steelers went undefeated during the preseason, and are hoping that momentum leads to a third consecutive playoff appearance. On Monday, the Steelers revealed who would be leading them into battle as their team captains for the 2022 season were announced.

Mitchell Trubisky being named a captain is intriguing. The Steelers have yet to name their starting quarterback for the upcoming season. However, Trubisky getting an honor such as captain pretty much wraps up the speculation as far as the quarterback position is considered.

Najee Harris is coming off of an impressive rookie campaign. The former first-round pick finished fourth in rushing (1,200) and racked up 1,667 all-purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns. Seeing as the Steelers are heading in a new direction at quarterback, Harris may need to carry the offense for a while until the kinks get worked out.

Defensively, it was clear who would be chosen. T.J. Watt, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is looking for his fifth consecutive double-digit sack season and his fourth straight campaign receiving All-Pro honors. Cam Heyward is coming off of his third consecutive All-Pro campaign and the second double-digit sack outing of his career (10).

Miles Killebrew gets the distinction for the special teams unit. After spending his first five seasons with the Detroit Lions, Killebrew brought his special teams expertise to the Steelers in 2021 and logged 335 snaps in that area. For him to be chosen for this honor after one season speaks to his impact not just on the field but in the locker room since it's voted on by the players.
