The 2023 NFL trade deadline is only six days away on Halloween evening.
And while I have floated multiple ideas when it comes to what Pittsburgh should be looking to do at this years deadline, it's also a time to reflect.
A new stat gave me the idea to review the Chase Claypool trade that went down a year ago Tuesday. Let's just say it worked out for Pittsburgh:
Winning? Never Heard of Her
That's right, Claypool hasn't won in a game in his last 15 contests, has been in the media for all the wrong reasons, and is likely on his final chance in Miami after once again being traded by the Bears a few weeks ago.
It's a sad state of affairs for what was once thought to be the next big thing at WR in the black in gold, but it's reality.
Claypool seemingly got more wrapped up in what football could do for him, rather than the game itself, with lockerroom issues, questionable effort, and just poor play that resembled nothing similar to the rookie campaign that saw him record career highs in receptions (62), yards (873) and touchdowns (9).
But ever since, it has been downhill for the man labeled Mapletron, a tag line used to combine a Calvin Johnson-like skillset with his Canadian roots.
Not only did Pittsburgh get Claypool out of town before he cost them a losing season, but they also received an extremely high draft pick (#32 overall) which netted them the best corner on the team, Joey Porter Jr:
So Claypool is certainly in a rut, and the Dolphins will obviously bounceback, even with him active, seeing as they are one of the best teams in the league.
But there's a popular mantra in the league among coaches:
"Winning is contagious."
Right now, Claypool is proving that losing may also be contagious.
