In case you haven't heard, the Pittsburgh Steelers need a new quarterback.
Pittsburgh is in the market after Ben Roethlisberger's retirement and they've been liked to two really big names over the past week in Aaron Rodgers and the more-recent Deshaun Watson.
Watson is in court Friday and there could be some major movement in regard to team interest if things go in Watson's favor. A couple of days ago, ex-NFL quarterback Shaun King said Watson was interested in Pittsburgh. Obviously, that would be huge if Watson were to end up with the Steelers.
Naturally, that caught fire. And even more so, it caught the direction attention of Steelers Nation.
So with all eyes set on Watson's Friday hearing, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah -who is well-connected throughout the league- cleared up the Watson-Steelers trade topic on the most recent episode of his podcast, Move The Sticks.
"In talking to friends around the league the expectation from every single one of them is that when it’s all said & done Deshaun Watson’s gonna be the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks," Jeremiah said.
"Now look, there's obviously the legal hurdles that exist and that's on its own timeline," he continued. "So, that would have to be resolved [first]. But I haven't talked to anybody that thinks Pete Carroll is going to take this thing down [the Seahawks] to the studs with John Schneider and this is going to be a three- or four-year rebuild.
"Again, not any personal knowledge of that situation, but everybody in the league -and I'm talking about everybody you talk to- expects this to be the outcome."
Jeremiah's word isn't gold. I mean, for example, many bought Carroll's persistent insistence that Russell Wilson would be a Seahawk in 2022 and we all saw how that turned out.
But Jeremiah also wouldn't just go public with any information. It would have to be well-sourced and well-vetted before he broadcasts anything to the masses. Carroll's reluctance toward a rebuild at the age of 79-years-old makes sense, too. Watson would easily fill the giant void left by Wilson.
So, it looks like Steeler Nation shouldn't hold its collective breath Friday. But it should still keep on eye on the crawler, just in case.
