The Pittsburgh Steelers may be traveling to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals soon, but before they do so, they had to see who was coming and who was staying.
That included a practice squad player who will be playing in his third and perhaps last regular season game tomorrow:
Could This Be It For Carpenter?
Carpenter was added this year after a stint in 2022 with the Green Bay Packers, who selected him in the 7th round of last year's draft.
Carpenter was on the practice squad all year until the Cole Holcomb injury when he was elevated for some depth.
But following another season-ending injury to a Steelers LB (Kwon Alexander) Carpenter was elevated again last week.
So with the news that he will be elevated tomorrow, Carpenter will have to be signed to the active roster should he continue to play on gameday going forward.
The reason is, per NFL Communications, teams can only elevate a player from the practice squad three times. If they wish to continue using the player on game day, he will have to be signed to the 53-man roster.
That's where it gets tricky for Carpenter. A week ago the team signed fellow inside LB Mykal Walker to the active roster, and then signed a familiar face in Myles Jack to the practice squad, followed by veteran LB Blake Martinez to the 53-man roster.
So what once was a depleted room, is now flowing with resources, meaning Walker will have to show he's better than the Steelers' recent additions if he wants to continue playing.
One position matchup to watch in Steelers’ Week 12 clash vs. Bengals
Big showdown coming in Week 12.
