In what was a surprising last-minute move, the Pittsburgh Steelers benched long-time starting RT Chuks Okorafor ahead of the Titans game.
With Okorafor not listed on the team's injury report, this seemed like a curveball that few saw coming.
Well, we now know why Pittsburgh made the move, or at least, we have a story:
Say What?
"It was just something I said,” Okorafor told reporters after the game. “You know, just with the way the game was going last week, I said something I shouldn’t have said. Just being in year six, I can’t act out the way I was acting out. It was mostly that and nothing else. I don’t know what’s going to happen next week. I hope I’m going to be out there with the guys, but I don’t know, it’s not my call.”
Now I don't know about you, but that sounds like a crock of you-know-what to me. I'm not saying that Pittsburgh shouldn't or doesn't discipline their players. But since the inception of football, teams rarely, if ever self impose restrictions or sanctions, especially on key starters, during a short week in a pivotal game.
So I don't know. Call me a skeptic. But Pittsburgh tinkered with tonights offensive line assortment throughout training camp and in the preseason, and when they finally unveiled it…
Pittsburgh rushes for a season-high 167 yards.
Coincidence? I think not.
