The Pittsburgh Steelers came within a few points of staging the comeback of a lifetime.

But between an unfortunate penalty from the officials and an awful play-call from the Steelers offense, the team came up short.

To make matters worse, one of their best players was lost in the contest:

Steelers Postgame Injury Update

  • T.J. Watt: Watt was injured on the first play from scrimmage, taking a knee to the chin from Patriots RB Zeke Elliot. He was seen being on worked on by multiple members of the medical staff and even took a trip to the blue medical tent where he was assessed by the red hat or unaffiliated neural consultant for a concussion. Watt was cleared to play and returned after only a few plays off. In terms of his injury status, Coach Tomlin had nothing further on Watt.
  • Alex Highsmith: Highsmith left the game early in the first half after sustaining a neck injury. He went to the locker room and was quickly ruled out. Coach Tomlin said after the game that "Highsmith has a neck injury of some description."
  • Keeanu Benton: Benton has been of the best players on defense, regardless of experience level. The rookie went down in the second half and was seen walking toward the blue medical tent. Coach T had nothing to add about Benton.
