After Sunday's dismantling by the Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin promised change.
Never diving into the specifics of what that change would be, we found out exactly what he meant and more in our latest edition of Tomlin Tuesdays.
Well, it's change, but it's not the change many hoped or wanted:
'Change in Practice Attire'
The first change that Coach T said was going to occur would be more padded practices for Pittsburgh. The team had primarily been in only helmets over the last few weeks, and Coach T said he felt it played into the teams' lack of physicality in Houston, something they have to fix before playing Baltimore:
"Houston was more physical than us and played harder than us," Coach T told reporters. "That’s something that has to change immediately … we have to look at what we’re doing in an effort to make sure the doesn’t reoccur."
Not exactly the "change' we were looking for, maybe it will make a difference, but the NFL's collective bargaining agreement limits padded practice to one day a week in the season, so it's doubtful.
'Division of Labor'
Ahh yes, the "change" everyone was hoping for, a division of labor among the offense and at play-caller right?
Wrong:
"Not at this juncture," said Coach T when asked if there would be a change at play-caller (Matt Canada) with him later doubling down that no changes would be made on the coaching staff in-season.
Now maybe that changes, but for now, the only division of labor going on is the potential increase in snap share for rookie Joey Porter Jr.:
"He's positioning himself to be more of a factor," said Coach T when asked about changes in the secondary with Peezy Jr. replacing one of Pittsburgh's two corners.
So I know Steelers fans won't appreciate these "changes" but thinking Canada would be fired a month into the season was always a pipe dream, and now has been confirmed.
Hopefully these "changes" suffice.
