One thing is for sure in Pittsburgh, the team will need better QB play if they want to compete at the highest level of the AFC.
We are fresh off 28-year-old Patrick Mahomes cementing his legacy with his third Super Bowl in five years.
Even Pittsburgh Steelers Owner Art Rooney came out and said better QB play is the team's biggest concern, and the latest report from ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms as much:
Kenny Pickett Is On Notice
"Pittsburgh gets some type of quarterback, said Adam Schefter during Monday's latest edition of the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. "Whether that's Ryan Tannehill, Rusell Wilson, or Justin Fields…Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields, we'll keep that in mind during the offseason and coming weeks, They're not just going to leave it as Kenny Pickett's starting job."
There have been murmurs and rumblings about the Steelers and Fields, but that was largely just outside fodder as opposed to an actual connection.
Schefter's latest report that Mike Tomlin is very fond of Fields is a new one, however, potentially pointing to a trade. Chicago is working through their own QB decsion as they weigh the future of their franchise with Fields vs. the incoming crop of QBs as they hold the first overall pick.
But it seems that not even two years removed from the selection of Pickett, Pittsburgh is already looking around at other options in the market, a position they hoped to not be in for another 10-15 years.
The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly have a vested interest in a prospect that could be Ryan Shazier 2.0
