The defensive backfield in Pittsburgh is currently banged up.
But even when they were healthy, it wasn't as if things were functioning at a high level.
Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the team recognizes that, and may be making a move to correct it:
Shopping For A CB
This should come as no surprise, as I stated that GM Omar Khan needs to make some moves after letting corners like Cam Sutton, Arthur Maulet, and Ahkello Witherspoon walk this offseason, all of whom have played valuable roles for their respective teams.
Now, I floated a different CB, one that has a first-round draft status and tremendous pedigree, but I'm not opposed to adding Jaylon Johnson of the Chicago Bears either.
Johnson was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft and has been both durable and reliable in Chicago, starting in every game he's played and recording three interceptions and 35 pass breakups across 45 games.
Johnson is in the last year of his contract, and it's clear that he and Chicago aren't seeing eye to eye in negotiations, making him a potential "get what you can" candidate.
So if Pittsburgh only has to part ways with a third round pick, I say go for it. A half-season rental on young talent with proven performance in the league can't hurt, especially if Johnson fits in Pittsburgh, potentially foreshadowing a dynamic CB duo for years to come.
