The Pittsburgh Steelers' main defensive concern is the secondary.

More specifically, how the cornerback and strong safety positions will play out.

So with that in mind, today we're going to highlight one of the most underrated, yet vastly important spots on defense:

Nickel, AKA slot corner.

Peterson is one of the best corners of his generation and surely has his spot in Canton waiting for him five years after he retires. But if some of the conjecture surrounding Peterson's usage in Pittsburgh is correct, he may be in for his toughest test yet.

The recently turned 33-year-old has always played outside. Yes, his time as a lockdown man-man defender has come and gone, as even in Minnesota's zone-heavy scheme he was predominantly outside the hashes.

A move inside would be a challenge based on inexperience if nothing else, but the all-time great is likely up for it.

A fellow Viking turned Steeler, unlike Peterson, Sullivan is experienced at the slot corner position dating back to his time in Green Bay.

The soon-to-be 27-year-old is in his prime and brings a lengthy profile to the position, making him a considerable contender to earn the starting role at Nick.

The Incumbent: Damontae Kazee

Kazee will likely be entrenched in multiple positional battles this training camp, as the strong safety position is also up for grabs. The former league leader in interceptions while in Atlanta, Kazee has a frenetic pace and the ball-hawking skills that the Steelers like from their slot corners.

Now, there is a world where Kazee plays both roles, seemingly being used as a Swiss army knife, especially given the multiplicity of modern defenses. That makes him least likely to earn the starting role, but a consideration for nickelback nonetheless.
